The Story of a Suicide

"Story of a Suicide" is about the suicide of Tyler Clamenti. Tyler had been being secretly filmed by his roommate using a webcam in his room. His roommate, Dharun Ravi, is accused of causing his suicide by filming Tyler's sexual encounters with another man and posting them online. Ian also talks about the different backgrounds and personalities of Clamenti and Ravi.

While I agree that Ravi played a large part in Clamenti committing suicide, I don't think he was the only factor and therefore I don't think that he should have gotten the sentence that he did. Clamenti had probably been contemplating suicide or been depressed before Ravi's actions pushed him over the edge. That being said though, what Ravi did is still horrible. Secretly videotaping somebody, especially in their most private moments, is humiliating enough without then spreading it on the internet. I believe that it is, or should be, illegal to video tape and share videos of people without their consent or knowledge. Ravi should still be punished, but not as harshly.
