Response: The art of summarizing

The article stresses various points of summarizing, obviously, methods of doing so, and the importance of steering clear of bland words. The whole point of the article is to do what we are doing this very moment, reading the authors article, taking in what he/she said, and then combining that with our own personal position or stance on any given topic. When we summarize it is important to make sure we hit all the main topics or ideas of the selection, but even more important, to put what the author says into our own words, into sentences and phrases that make sense to us and the rest of us reading it. The author mentions that at times it is hard to not say things like "she said", but it is still important to try and catch those small details. It is those little things that heighten our capacity to engage readers, and summarize better.
