Roy Peter Clark Response

Roy Peter Clark's exert "I Won't Use Writing as Punishment. I Won't...," explains exactly what the title says. Clark pushes the idea that students and teachers look at writing as a punishment because of the consequences in class. Clark also says that as long as teachers continue to use writing as a punishment, students will continue to hate writing and look to it as a punishment, rather than a fun and amazing activity.
I can relate to Clark's thoughts from past experiences. There have been a numerous amount of times where a teacher has assigned an essay or some form of writing if a student was not able to go on a field trip because of bad grades or because they got in trouble. I feel that the only way to make students enjoy writing is to remove writing as a form of punishment and consider other forms of punishment.
