Her Point Is: The Art of Summarizing

This article talks about the importance of a well constructed summary.  The author stresses that writers shouldn't shy away from summaries and "balancing what the original author is saying with the writer's own focus." (Her Point Is 19)  To construct a good summary writers must play the believing/doubting game with the original author's article, know the views of others as well as your own, and avoid bland words like "she says" and instead, use words that "fit the action" (Her Point Is 35).

I agree that a well written summary is very important to an article.  If the reader couldn't put the pieces of the article together, at least they can have a clear view of what the author is driving at by reading the summary.  It is important to defend your views as well as mention opposing views to better formulate a well constructed summary.  I believe words should be carefully chosen when writing any form of article because it helps the reader understand what the writer is trying to say.  Sometimes words like "say" and "implies" don't provide a clear picture for the readers.  Instead, using "emphasize" and "protest" helps to better express the author's feelings towards the issue.
