Discourse of Academics

Mike Rose discusses the different levels of speaking we use in everyday language whether it is informal or formal style of speech. It is obvious that when we are speaking to friends or family will most likely be very different from when we are speaking to a professor or faculty member here at Ohio University. Mike Rose stresses the point that we need to realize the most important parts of speech instead of just thinking we do not understand a list of words. I think Mike Rose is trying to put the emphasis of this article on the professors now a days because he believes that if we focus on writing and style of speech in the classroom, our students will feel more comfortable in different speaking situations that involve a variety of different kinds of people. If students get more opportunities for this to happen in the classroom, the better off they will be when they are not in school. Mike Rose ends this article raising questions, and infers that if we put our students needs and goals first, things will be a lot different. I agree with this because I obviously did not receive this type of learning in high school, but things would be different if I did.
