Dharun Ravi - NYT

This article is about the Tyler Clementi suicide case.  This article differs from Ian Parker's article because it talks about the actual trial (who testified against Ravi and what charges given to Ravi).  It also gives the opinions of more people involved in the case, like M.B. (Clementi's partner when the camera was turned on).  It also talks about bullying and paying closer attention to this topic.  Lastly, it gives the background of Ravi.
This article is definitely more biased that Parker's.  It doesn't mention the texts Ravi sent right before Clementi jumped off the bridge.  I was surprised that Molly Wei testified against Ravi considering she was also involved, probably more than Ravi, in the spying of Clementi.  It was also interesting how the author put Ravi's background at the end of the article.  It seems he wanted the readers to be persuaded by his view of the case by not giving the readers proper background information before the main portion of the article.    

Dharun Ravi NYT

This article give a less biased account of the incidents that happened at Rutgers between Dharun Ravi and Tyler Clementi, but still has Dharun (rightly so) in a bad light. The New York Times Article is more recent so it provides the details that Ravi was found guilty of bias intimidation, and tampering with evidence and witnesses.
 I liked having another article to look at in order to gain more information about the case, and how it has progressed recently. I don't understand why Ravi would not take the community service deal, to me that would seem like the smartest choice.

Dharun Ravi NYT

First off, the article explained briefly about Tyler Clementi's case and how it happened. Later on it talked about questions asked in court, and whom they are asked to, and also their answers. The main difference from this article to Ian parker's article is that this article talked about M.B and how Ravi, described him. Also it talks about how Ravi is afraid that M.B might steal his ipad, because M.B looks shady and how he used M.B's shadiness as a reason to stream the video.
Unlike other articles, this article focuses more on the trail part of the story and less on the progression of it.  The article was so clear and it got more content about post-suicide matters when you compare it to Ian parker's story. Overall, i think this is a good article because it gives me new information such as trail of testifying Rutgers students and such.

Part two -suicide story

        In this second part of the story we got a good understanding of why Ravi acted the way he did and what major events led up to the suicide of Clementi. Therefore we saw it from the view on Clementi's side and the view of Ravi's side. The reasoning about why Tyler committed suicide is unknown. 
       I still believe that Ravi should not be blamed for the suicide. Yes he did play a big role in making Clementi maybe be self concious, but there is no proof behind his suicide. I also believe that Ravi somewhat liked Tyler as a friend. The way they talked about the text message that he sent him before he jumped off the bridge showed how Ravi actually felt, and it was a shame that Tyler already jumped and wasn't able to make amends with Ravi.
      I think showing quotes and comments made by other people helped to show the views of others and what their opinions were.

Dahrun Ravi-NYT

This article was about the final trial sentencing for Dahrun Ravi. I agreed that Ravi shouldn't of been convicted for Tyler Clementi's suicide. I also believe Ravi should of taken the plea bargain earlier on to help him learn and work towards his actions. I liked how this article was short and strait to the results, but on the other hand some more detail would of been interesting to know.

Response to Dharun Ravi (New York Times)

The article in The New York Times on Dharun Ravi gives a brief description of who Ravi and Tyler Clementi were and what Ravi did. It also gives an explanation to what charges Dharun Ravi was convicted of and how they were placed. The next thing it provides is who the people were and what questions were asked in the trial. Two of the people in the trial were Julia McClure (the first assistant prosecutor of Middlesex County) and, most importantly, "M.B," who was with Clementi when the camera was turned on. A few students at Rutger's university testified against Ravi. These students were Michelle Huang, Lokesh Ojha, and Molly Wei. Molly Wei was a friend of Ravi's who was formally charged of spying on Clementi too, but those charges were dropped in exchange for community service hours.

As much I liked how much everything in this article was easy to understand, that same factor made me feel as though the author was biased. The first thing that struck me was the short and sweet summary of the whole situation in the first paragraph. I feel like a complicated case like this deserves something longer. However, the part that stood out the most was when the author mentioned that Dharun was not charged with contributing to the fact that Clementi killed himself. Why? Because this was stated as one sentence in it's own separate paragraph. The fact that it was written this way led me to believe that the author of this wanted the readers to feel a sense of shock, the same sense of shock that the author had himself when he learned about this. I think that the author should have kept that feeling to himself in order to let the readers decide whether the fact that he was not charged was surprising or not.

I actually enjoyed reading this because unlike most other readings this was pretty easy to understand. This exert gave a lot of detailed examples that will really help someone who needs help writing a summary. This reading focused on the importance of a summary. Some people think that a since a summary is short and to the point, that it has little importance. But, what people don't know is that while you summarize you have to make sure to state the facts that the author provides, but still include your own thoughts. One of the authors most important piece of information was that in a summary you should keep it short and non biased. By not being more opinionated to more topics then others we can keep from being biased. Overall, this exert really gave a lot of information and gave a great outline of what a summary should look like, and what it needs.
